BEST can accept materials and equipment that have been exposed to a radiological environment and are considered to be potentially contaminated with radioactive materials. Radiological surveys and decontamination are performed on these materials, resulting in the unconditional free release of the item from all radiological regulatory control.
The materials can then be reused/recycled, extending the life of the material and avoiding premature disposal as radioactive waste. Some radiological waste may be generated and will be disposed of in accordance with appropriate regulations. This material and equipment recovery program is environmentally sound, as it eliminates and/or minimizes the amount of radioactive waste that is sent to radioactive landfills throughout the U.S.
